There is no Buy Now button and no hidden reserve price. A lot can start at R1, and the final selling price is decided by the bidders competing for it.
How bidding works on eHawker.
If you have never used an auction before, think of it as a live price race. Buyers place bids, the timer counts down, and the highest bidder wins when the lot closes.
Use the eHawker Auction Swiper to create your own exciting watchlist before the auction rush starts. Swipe right to keep lots, then bid from your watchlist or the live auction queue.
Quick bid buttons require a short hold to prevent accidental bids while scrolling. Once the hold completes, your bid is placed and becomes binding.
If you are leading when the countdown reaches zero, you win the lot. If someone outbids you before the lot closes, you need to bid again if you still want it.
Auction example: A cabinet starts at R1. Buyer A bids R50, Buyer B bids R100, and Buyer C bids R150. If no one bids again before the timer ends, Buyer C wins the cabinet at R150 plus the buyer charges shown at checkout.
During busy auctions, lots can close close together. That is why the buyer dashboard gives you All Auction Lots, My Watchlist, Outbid Alerts and My Auctions. You can stay on one page and bid quickly without opening every product in a separate tab.
A proxy bid is your private maximum. If you enter R1,000, eHawker does not immediately jump the public bid to R1,000. It only bids enough to keep you leading, up to your maximum.
If someone bids in the final five minutes, the lot can extend by two minutes. This gives other bidders a fair chance to respond instead of losing because of a last-second bid.
Won lots move to your cart. Checkout must be completed before old unpaid items block future bidding. Once the order is ready, collection can be arranged during trading hours.
Buyer commission
The visible auction amount excludes buyer commission. Buyer commission is 15% plus R15 per item, VAT inclusive. This is shown clearly at checkout and in order totals.
Bidding FAQs
Do I pay the amount shown on the bid button?
The bid amount is the auction price only. Buyer commission is added at checkout, so the final payable amount is higher than the winning bid.
Can I cancel a bid after I place it?
Bids should be treated as binding. The hold-to-bid action is there to reduce accidental bids before they are submitted.
What is the easiest way to follow items I like?
Use the Auction Swiper to create your watchlist, or add lots directly from the auction queue. Your watchlist then becomes your personal bidding lane.
